Saadia Zahidi Becomes First Woman to Lead IATA

Swiss-Pakistani executive Saadia Zahidi has been appointed as the next Director General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), becoming the first woman to lead the organization since its establishment.

She will officially assume office on 1 November 2026 as the ninth Director General of IATA, which represents more than 370 airlines responsible for around 85% of global air traffic.

Extensive Leadership Experience

Before joining IATA, Zahidi served as Managing Director and Member of the Managing Board at the World Economic Forum (WEF). She led the Centre for the New Economy and Society and previously headed several key global initiatives focused on communications, international partnerships, and economic development.

Additionally, she has served on the United Nations Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel on Women’s Economic Empowerment and the European Space Agency’s High-Level Advisory Group.
