COTHM, Pakistan’s renowned Hotel Management College, held its 6th Annual Convocation at the Marriot Hotel, Karachi. Where certificates were distributed to more than 150 culinary and baking chefs and hotel management graduates.
The special guests of the convocation were the newly elected President of Pakistan Engineering Council Najeeb Haroon, while the guests included Ahmed Shafiq (COTHM Pakistan and Dubai Chief Executive Officer), Engr. Sabir Ahmed (Executive Director COTHM Karachi), Khairul Nazar Abd Rehman (Malaysian Consulate General of Pakistan) and Dr. Masroor Ahmed (Chairman Sindh Board of Technical Education).
The event was attended by students, their parents, and a large number of guests from Karachi’s hotel and food industry. The event began with the recitation of the Holy Quran and the national anthem of Pakistan.
After which the Host of the convocation ceremony Mirza Soban Baig named the 6th Annual Convocation of COTHM Karachi after the legend of Pakistan Muhammad Ali Sadpara and said that Muhammad Ali Sadpara was a symbol of continuous struggle and moving forward in the most difficult circumstances and Pakistani nation never forgets its hero. It may be recalled that Muhammad Ali Sadpara had gone missing a few months ago while climbing K2 and later, he was also martyred in the same mountains.
Addressing the inaugural function, Engineer Sabir Ahmed (COTHM Karachi Executive Director) said that these two years were a year of ordeal for the hospitality food and education industry in Pakistan and around the world. The students completed their education in these difficult circumstances and are here today with a new determination and ready to work in industry in Pakistan and around the world. He thanked the special guest and all the guests for coming.
Speaking on the occasion, Engineer Najeeb Haroon said that the economy of Pakistan and the world is going through difficult times. The Prime Minister is looking after this industry in particular and the development of this industry is not only the development of the country but also of all of you. He congratulated all the graduates and conveyed a message of congratulations from the Prime Minister.
Addressing the students Ahmed Shafiq (Chief Executive Officer of COTHM Pakistan and Dubai) said that: COTHM has trained thousands of young boys and girls for the hospitality industry in Pakistan and around the world over the past 20 years and has built its best education system. Due to which COTHM is the number one college in Pakistan with two campuses in Karachi which are Gulshan and North Nazimabad and fifteen campuses in Pakistan where thousands of students are studying Hospitality, Culinary Travel and Tourism and by studying our technical education system and working in this industry all over the world, they are sending valuable foreign exchange to Pakistan, He congratulated the students for completing their education in difficult conditions during corona and thanked the management and teachers of the college in Karachi for making them skilled workers for Pakistan.
Addressing the ceremony, Khairul Nazar Abdul Rehman (Malaysian Consul General) said that Pakistan and Malaysia have long been brotherly Islamic countries and the doors of Malaysian universities are open for Pakistani skilled students to further their education in this trade and we are ready to cooperate with COTHM in this regard, He congratulated the students from the bottom of his heart and assured them that the difficulties will soon be resolved and we will once again be able to accelerate the journey of development.
Certificates and awards were then distributed among the passing students and commemorative shields were given to the distinguished guests.
The ceremony ended with a prayer in which special prayers were offered for the security and development of Pakistan.
